Keeping The Conversation Alive!

by MattFuller

Gone are the days of blind dates now that online dating allows us to assess suitable suitors in a matter of a few minutes rather than throwing caution to the wind and meeting someone sight unseen.

However online dating can also have the affect of giving a false impression of someone we have just met online, as often times a real life date turns out to be much different than first perceived online.

You will be well served to take advantage of noting down your online conversation in preparation for your first offline date. You certainly have an advantage by gaining valuable insight into important topics concerning your new online date which will well prepare you for the real thing.

Conventionally, many first dates take place at a coffee shop, but next time you arrange a date, think outside the square a little. Try a more casual and engaging environment like ten pin bowling or putt putt golf. Go for a bush walk perhaps and stop for lunch in the National Park, try something more interesting than the standard first date coffee shop.

Don’t make the mistake of picking a first date venue that doesn’t offer an interesting or stimulating environment. A busy cafe on the main road hardly presents the opportunity for you to make that vital first impression.

Remember, it’s not all about you, or your date, it’s about both of you being able to equally contribute to the conversation. And if you find that this is in fact happening fairly comfortably, and without too many awkward silences, you may well be onto something! Having met online first can be a big help.

We suggest to always be yourself on a first date. The more relaxed you are the more approachable you become. And simply because you run out of things to chat about, doesn’t mean the date is a dud, move things on abit, take the lead and suggest going for a walk to re-energize the conversation with a new environment.

It’s always wise to restrain yourself from being too opinionated about touchy subjects such as religion or race issues. Show your date your easy going and open minded self before you blast them with your pent up views about what’s wrong with the world.

Be sure not to hog the conversation. A good way to further help achieve this is to make it easy on your date to participate in the conversation by asking more questions about the topic your already engaged in. Avoid straight out yes – no answers at all cost.

The very purpose of going on a date is to see what makes the other person tick. So by offering each other your experiences in a fun and light hearted way, sets the scene for stimulation conversation and builds interest. Talk about travel, adventures you’ve been on or about the time you went ski diving or skiing in Canada and do try to avoid talking about your EX!

  1. Hi, nice post. You will date when you are ready and that is not unusual or funny. You take the wrong friends if they are making fun of you. It will be solid, but maybe you should make new admirers. Ones that will aid almost you and not make fun of you for being rational and mature about dating. I have to say that being 18 and never in a human relationship is fairly normal. Soon you will go to college and plausibly date there but until then, remember that you are special and no one peculiarly your “friends” should be working fun of you for that. You don’t want to remember your first time as something you did so that your friends would stop making fun of you, so attract more women the natural way .

I agree that waiting until you are ready is important, especially if it is to try and impress “friends”. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone because you know exactly who you are. I feel that when a person is comfortable with themselves they feel comfortable waiting for the right time to date.

  3. I am loving yout dating adventures.

  4. I came across this blog looking for gift ideas for valentine

  5. That was silly. Why you’ve start to writing this?
